Sentimental Sunday mush!

My boy turned 2 this month, so I wrote him this poem. I think he’d have preferred something with wheels or loud sounds- ah well Sonny, can’t win them all!

Another year and here we are

Two years in the life of a little star

Not long since on planet earth you descended

And all my selfish living- amended

Making way for a new found life

First a mother, then a wife

Not taking to the first task well

You were from heaven; I was in hell,

But time and love healed those glitches

With laughter, you, me, Dad, in stiches

You landed on me with a bump

And then so quickly started to thump
We called you Sonny, even then we knew

What to call a character like you

A little face with smiling eyes

Non stop gurgling, peaceful sighs,

Developing quickly, growing strong

Calling out in baby song

Limbs getting longer, rubbery legs

A passion for hummus and scrambled eggs

How proud did I think I ever could be

To have this smiling child with me

Who beams at strangers in shopping queues

Like life brings perpetual happy news

How lucky did I ever think

That life would change in almost a blink

And you’d be here with chipped front teeth

And change my fortune beyond belief

Some things take us by surprise

And change direction in our lives.

I don’t know quite where I was going

Then you turned up, all quiet, all knowing

And now you’re one year older again

So many differences keep you the same

And so many reasons, you fill days with fun
Happy birthday my sparkling, magical son.

I'm Kelly and I like sleeping, lying down, resting relaxing and reclining. Sadly I don't indulge in most of these cherished past times anymore because they have been replaced with the domestic chaos that comes with having a 3 year old boy, a husband with the mind of a 3 year old boy, and a baby bump due for arrival this November. I feel guilty a lot about more or less every parenting decision I take, and find that blogging about the guilt can often help you realise that, although you haven't managed to get even one carrot into you child's mouth in 3 years of trying, you are usually doing your best for your kids. Share my guilt! Read my posts! Thank you, Kelly. x
