5 shows from way back when that you should inflict upon your kids

Hi all! I’m Erin, nicknamed Eddie, the newest member of the Mummyology team. I’ll be here Saturdays, rambling mostly about learning activities but occasionally – as today- about whatever is in my head when I sit down to write.

When I’m not here, you can find me at my blog The Usual Mayhem, or wasting time on Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest. I also teach a weekly nature study class at SchoolhouseTeachers.com. If I’m not at any of these places, I’m probably hiding from the kids and drinking coffee.

Clearly, I am giving away information about my age with this list. Since you only have to look at my well-weathered complexion for the same information, I’m ok with that.

Without further ado, here are 5 shows I remember watching as a child and that I have subsequently inflicted upon my own.
1. Gilligan’s Island.
Get the whole series. Your kids will want to watch them back to back. Make sure you have grass skirts and lots of twigs or popsicle sticks handy for the inevitable “deserted island” play afterwards. In our house, this play has lasted 4 years.

2. Mr. Bean.
If you haven’t seen this show, you are missing the great Rowan Atkinson in some of his funniest physical performances ever.

3. Ghostbusters.
Technically, not a show, but so funny that I’m including it anyway. Some of the best movie lines ever.

4. Little Rascals.
Innocent, uproariously funny to smaller children, and a refreshing change from all the beat-em-up shows available today. (Disclaimer: Before my time, but still running when I was a kid)

5. The Ghosts of Motley Hall.
Ridiculous, unbelievable – and great fun. I am still searching for this series so that I can show my kids. If you know where to get it in North America, please tell me.
What shows would you add to this list? Please post them in the comments, so I can take a look!

I’m thinking Little House on the Prairie is a staple! I remember being allowed to stay up ’till 8 to watch it! Looking forward to reading the first book as part of Sonlight Core A this year, so that’s when we’ll introduce the series.
